So today was the big first day of work which was a lot more mellow than I had anticipated. Of course I was more nervous than I should have been but it all went over pretty well. The office is about a 15-minute walk from the house, but today Sarah, Stephanie and I got a ride from one of the other co-workers on their way in. Apparently they try to do that as much as possible but I really don't mind the walk, especially on days it's not raining...they are far and few between so I try and use them wisely around here! The office is right in the middle of the "town square," literally named Grattan Square, and has a bright tangerine orange door. :) can't miss that!
When we first got there (9 a.m.) Stephanie, the other intern, and I received binders with all the information we will need, which kept us busy for quite some time. Rosie, our main "coordinator," then just had us watch a DVD about our product, which I already knew a lot about. I felt like it was the first day of freshman year in high school where you just go through the motions and have no idea what to really do next. I mean, everyone was really nice and it was an amazingly laid back office but I had that little feeling like not knowing if your going to get a pop-quiz out of nowhere.
We had an arrival of boxes and packages of different brochures that needed to get sent out (which took over the rest of the day) but there were SOOOO many boxes that everyone in the office made an assembly line outside and we just passed them off one-by-one up the stairs. It's the kind of town that out of no where I looked over and the butcher from next door was handing me boxes and passing them along as well. I love that! I really do feel like everyone in town will know your name if you make an effort and just pass by saying "cheers" every day.
The day looked a bit dreary today but it didn't rain much so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it stays like that for a while! At least until I get a good walk in and can start to get my bearings straight!
